The Ontario Curriculum

The Ontario Curriculum is the official set of curriculum expectations for publicly funded schools in Ontario, published by the province's Ministry of Education and hosted on the Curriculum and Resources site at dcp.edu.gov.on.ca. It covers Grades 1 to 12 across the full range of provincial subjects and disciplines, from elementary language, mathematics and science and technology through to the secondary disciplines. For each subject it sets out content standards (the overall and specific expectations a learner should meet) and performance standards (the achievement chart used to assess that learning). This is a standards framework rather than teaching content: it defines what should be taught and mastered at each grade, not the lessons themselves.

You access it in two ways. The public site presents the expectations by grade and strand as browsable web pages, with official PDF documents behind them. Separately, Ontario's K-12 curriculum was published in machine-readable form through the Achievement Standards Network (ASN, operated by D2L) in 2016, modelled in RDF and downloadable as RDF/XML, RDF/JSON, Turtle and N-Triples, with each expectation carrying a stable identifier.

For a RAG pipeline the expectations chunk cleanly, since each is short and self-contained, and the identifiers give you a controlled vocabulary for tagging and retrieving content by subject and level. For an AI tutor the value is sequencing and alignment: you can order teaching to the Ontario progression, check that coverage matches a recognised jurisdiction, and map practice items to specific expectations for mastery modelling. It complements the teaching content we already list, such as OpenStax, Khan Academy, CK-12 and Siyavula, and sits alongside other standards spines like Common Core and NGSS as a Canadian reference point.

On licensing, take care. The material is Crown copyright, held by the King's Printer for Ontario. Non-commercial reproduction is permitted where the content is unchanged, the source is credited and Crown copyright is acknowledged, but commercial reproduction requires a licence from the King's Printer. Anyone building a commercial tutor should confirm terms before redistributing the text.
